Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United all were approached, but the intermediaries did not hear back from them.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were actively trying to sign Haller on deadline day, and so were Fulham, who signed Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea instead.

We understand that both Wolves and Fulham held talks with Borussia Dortmund over a deal for the former West Ham United striker.

Dortmund were willing to let the striker leave on loan on the final day of the January transfer window, but they could not strike a deal with the Hammers or the Wanderers. Haller is still at the German club.

Erik ten Hag knows Sebastien Haller well

Haller has been on the books of Dortmund since the summer of 2022 when he joined from Ajax.

The former West Ham United striker was diagnosed with a testicular tumour in July 2022 and subsequently underwent treatment that involved chemotherapy and two lots of surgery.

Haller returned to training in January 2023 and made his debut for Dortmund on January 22.

The Ivory Coast international did not have the best of times at West Ham. During his time at the London club, the 29-year-old scored 10 goals and gave one assist in 48 Premier League matches.

However, at Ajax, the striker flourished. He scored 47 goals in 66 matches. Haller worked with Erik ten Hag at the Dutch giants.

Ten Hag, who is now in charge of Manchester United, described the striker as “phenomenal” when he was at Ajax.
