- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
HITC understands that Crystal Palace have agreed a fee with Blackburn Rovers for the transfer of midfielder Adam Wharton.
As we revealed last week Crystal Palace had a bid of £18million turned down, but talks continued and now a deal is in place at £22million plus add-ons.
The English midfielder will now travel to London to complete his medical and sign the contract with the Eagles in what would be a superb addition to the engine room at Selhurst Park.
This signing comes after Cheick Doucoure, who has previously been linked with Liverpool, suffered an Achilles problem and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Tomasson on Palace offer
As per the Lancashire Telegraph, after Blackburn Rovers’ win over Wrexham in the fourth round of the FA Cup, manager Jon Dahl Tomasson confirmed a bid had been lodged.
“There was a bid [a couple of days ago] which the club said no to, which I think was a good choice,” Tomasson said.
“We all know Adam is a great player. [He is] a joy to develop, a joy to work with daily. We know there are a lot of rumours and when you have a good player, which Adam is and maybe an England player one time, there is a chance he could go away.
“That’s football. That’s life. One thing we can say about Adam is that we’re proud of him if he plays here or if he plays for another club.”
Wharton came through the Lancashire sides’ academy and has gone on to make a total of 51 appearances for the club and has looked very impressive for Rovers.
What Wharton offers
With two goals and three assists for the Championship side this campaign, the Englishman offers goals from the middle of the park which is what the London club has struggled with this season.
Despite his goalscoring exploits, Wharton is a brilliant all-round midfielder and he will slot in seamlessly to the Palace engine room in the absence of Doucoure.
There haven’t been many permanent deals in the Premier League in January due to the financial troubles some clubs have suffered from but it looks like the London side have taken the initiative and are on the verge of sealing the deal for the 19-year-old.
