Xabi Alonso is now on everybody’s lips as he is being tipped to become the next Liverpool manager ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s exit.
The next man in the Anfield dugout is going to have huge shoes to fill because the job Jurgen Klopp has done is beyond remarkable.
Yes, if Xabi Alonso wins the Bundesliga title with Bayer Leverkusen, then he is the obvious option, Paul Merson thinks ‘you wouldn’t look past him’, as he told Sportskeeda.
But what about if he fails in that race? Well, Paul Merson was keen to throw in the name of Bayern Munich boss, Thomas Tuchel.
The 50-year-old was sacked by Chelsea in September 2022, and since then, the club have spiralled out of control.
He did a remarkable job at Stamford Bridge, with his finest moment coming in the Champions League final win over Manchester City.
That certainly puts some brownie points on the German’s CV, so could Jurgen Klopp be replaced by his fellow countryman when he leaves?

“If they had to hire a new manager tomorrow, I don’t think they’d look past Xabi Alonso, who has taken his Bayer Leverkusen side to the Bundesliga summit ahead of Bayern Munich,” said Merson.
“However, by the end of the season, if Bayern Munich pip them for the title, then Liverpool could even look at Thomas Tuchel as a potential option.”

From PSG to Bayern, he has always produced the goods wherever he has been and is also a very good man manager to boot.
Whilst Klopp won the lot on Merseyside, one of his biggest qualities is how he brings everyone together and interacts with the media and his own fans.
A manager like Tuchel, inside the four walls of Anfield, could bring that same feeling, as well as the success of continuing to win trophies.
One thing is for sure, he has the CV and he can deal with the pressure of taking on such a huge role.
