- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Tottenham Hotspur are not giving up the signing of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, HITC Football understands.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea have had a rocky season so far in the Premier League but one player has impressed as Conor Gallagher, who looked to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge, has become a key part of the Blues’ first team.
So much so that Pochettino handed the English midfielder the captaincy for Chelsea and he is now a vital cog for the Blues.
Despite this, there remains no resolution over the midfielder’s contract situation which has meant Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are not yet ending their interest.

Gallagher’s wish
However, sources have confirmed to HITC Football that the Englishman remains steadfast in his wish to stay at Stamford Bridge and is hoping that contract talks to extend his stay at the club begin sooner rather than later.
Chelsea’s position remains the same, however, they would be open to a sale. The Blues believe that the sale of Gallagher would be good for their Financial Fair Play situation as he would represent a good profit on the club’s books, this is despite Pochettino’s desire to keep the midfielder.
HITC Football sources also understand Gallagher, who has just 18 months left on his contract with Chelsea, is flattered by the interest in him with Spurs the clear front-runners at this moment in time.
However, Gallagher’s preference is to open talks with the Blues over extending his stay at the club once the January window slams shut. Gallagher has had previous loan spells at Swansea City and Crystal Palace, where he excelled.
Chelsea’s openness
Despite the appeal of selling the midfielder due to the profit on Chelsea’s books that his sale would represent, sources also believe that the Blues would be open to engaging in contract discussions.
As well as this, HITC football also understand that senior Chelsea players are keen on seeing Gallagher stay at the club and rewarded with a new deal.
Levi Colwill is another homegrown name who is attracting interest from Chelsea’s rivals with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool understood to be interested.
Selling one of Pochettino’s key men in Gallagher would certainly not be a wise move with results on the pitch already being inconsistent, problems behind the scenes are the last thing the club need.
