HITC Football understands that West Ham United manager David Moyes is keen on bringing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips to the club.

Kalvin Phillips has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester City this month as the European Championships approach this month and the defensive midfielder was vital in the last tournament under Gareth Southgate.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United were the side who were believed to be the front runners for the deal but HITC Football have reported these negotiations have stalled due to how much City demanded as a loan fee.

Now it’s David Moyes’ West Ham United who are believed to be interested in the midfielder with the Scotsman, in particular, keen on Phillips.

Doubts at West Ham

West Ham enquired over the midfielder’s availability at the behest of their manager but HITC sources have also been informed that the signing of Phillips is not universally popular among those who make the decisions at the London Stadium.

Moyes has rarely seen eye to eye with the club’s top brass since the arrival of technical director Tim Steidten. Earlier this month, the Hammers missed out on Marcos Leonardo to SL Benfica due to disagreements over the signing of the Brazilian.

This time Moyes wants Phillips and the club are ready to make a move for the Englishman but will face competition from a number of clubs, chief among these is the previously mentioned Newcastle.

Since moving to City in the summer of 2022, the English international has struggled hugely with the irrepressible Rodri starting ahead of him.

City’s demands

Despite Moyes’ desire to sign the 26-year-old, there remains some pessimism that a deal for the former Leeds United will be agreed due to the demands City are making.

We reported previously that City were demanding a rather hefty £5 million loan fee as well as the majority of Phillips’ wages being covered.

A move from West Ham is not surprising considering the long standing interest they have held in Phillips with the Hammers previously interested during the midfielder’s time at Elland Road.
