Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are now showing an interest in the transfer of Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier this January, HITC Football understands.

The 33-year-old has also emerged as a player who Newcastle may look to sell this month to strengthen their budget. Eddie Howe is keen to improve his team in the mid-season window but is dealing with a limited budget. While the Toon already have a replacement for Trippier.

Newcastle signed Tino Livramento from Southampton last August and believe he is ready to take over from Trippier. The 21-year-old has played in 14 of the Magpies’ 21 Premier League fixtures this term. But he has only started six with Trippier opening all 19 of his appearances.

Trippier has also captained Newcastle in eight of their top-flight fixtures so far this term. But Howe may agree to sell the 46-cap England international amid interest from the continent in his signature. Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are each exploring Trippier’s transfer.

Der FCB are keen to sign a new right-back in January and are in talks with PSG over their top target, Nordi Mukiele. But if Bayern Munich fail to convince the Ligue 1 giants to sell, Allianz Arena chiefs will turn to their alternative targets, which now includes a transfer for Trippier.

Likewise, Paris Saint-Germain are now showing an interest in Trippier as they would need a replacement for Mukiele. Sources have told HITC Football that Les Parisiens have added the former Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid defender to their shortlist of viable targets.

Trippier has only been at Newcastle for the past two years after leaving Atletico Madrid in a January transfer in 2022. He also instantly emerged as one of their leaders of the St James’ Park dressing room. But Howe may cash in on Trippier and promote Livramento this month.

Howe remains a huge advocate of what Trippier offers Newcastle but they require funds for their own transfers this month. The Magpies coach just threw his support behind Trippier in December, as well, after his difficult time away to Chelsea in their Carabao Cup quarter-final.

“Tripps is an incredibly strong character,” he said, via the Daily Mail. “As I’ve said many times he’s a transformative signing, someone that’s taken the group onto a totally different level.”
