Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil is being linked with a move to Feyenoord but one former Eredivisie boss is concerned about whether the Premier League benchwarmer is really ‘good enough’ for the reigning Dutch champions.
It never bodes particularly well for a player’s future when the new manager takes the same stance as the old one, and continues to leave him gathering cobwebs on the substitute’s bench.
The sacking of Antonio Conte and the subsequent appointment of Ange Postecoglou – Tottenham replacing a pragmatist with a purist – had some pundits wondering if Bryan Gil was set for a North London revival, given that the £21 million signing from Sevilla appeared far better suited to life under the Aussie than his ice-eyed predecessor.
But, like under Conte, Gil has spent much of his time alongside Postecoglou on the sidelines.

Bryan Gil facing uncertain Tottenham future
The former Spain under 21 international has started just twice in the Premier League this season, playing fewer than 200 minutes.
And, according to Aad de Mos, it is somewhat lazy to suggest – just because the Eredivisie cannot hold a candle to the power of the Premier League – that Gil would go from a Tottenham afterthought to Feyenoord talisman, highlighting the struggles of similarly high-profile names such as Josip Sutalo and Lucas Ocampos in Holland.
“If you have to catch up in the winter, then you have not done well in the summer,” De Mos tells Soccernieuws. “There are those panic situations again. That boy is now at Tottenham, he’s a lot of fun with the ball (but) it’s all frivolous.
“(Feyenoord’s interest in Bryan Gil) also has to do with the fact that those they brought in simply have no impact. Whether it is Igor Paixao or (Newcastle loanee) Yankuba Minteh or that boy from Croatia (Luka Ivanusec). It’s all a bit meagre.
“I have seen that boy (Gil). He has certain qualities,” adds De Mos, formerly a coach at Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Vitesse Arnhem.
“But, if you are not good enough for Tottenham or for Sevilla, then I always wonder whether it is enough for Feyenoord.
“We sometimes don’t (think about whether they are really good enough). We always look at big names in terms of the clubs they play for.”
Feyenoord issued warning
Bryan Gil, who was compared to Neymar during a superb loan spell at Elche a few seasons back, joined Spurs in 2021 as part of the deal which saw Erik Lamela move in the other direction. But, while there can be few doubts about his technical ability, Gil’s lack of pace or physicality means he has often resembled a pencil going up against powertools in the Premier League.
According to reports, there is interest from Serie A outfit Fiorentina too.
