Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has commented on any potential interest in AFC Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.

Dominic Solanke has had a superb campaign for Bournemouth and has netted 12 goals in 19 Premier League games which has attracted interest from some of the league’s top sides.

Arsenal and Newcastle United have been linked with the former Liverpool striker but HITC Football reported earlier this week that any talk of a move for the Englishman will be shot down by the South Coast side as he is not for sale in the winter window.

Newcastle have struggled massively with injury problems this season with Sky Sports reporting that the Geordie side have had 24 different absentees from the squad.

Howe on Solanke interest

Speaking ahead of Newcastle’s next Premier League game against Manchester City at St James’ Park, Eddie Howe was asked directly about the Geordie side’s interest in the forward.

“I love Solanke,” Howe said, as quoted by Craig Hope, “I signed him for Bournemouth & rate him very highly. But we have not made an enquiry for him & we don’t have the ability to sign a player of that level.”

That seems to put an end to the speculation over the Englishman who, as mentioned, has looked like a man reborn under Spaniard Andoni Iraola.

The Geordie side seem to be in a spot of bother in their financial position at this moment in time as they reported a £73 million post-tax loss for the latest accounting period.

The club’s accounts, which can be viewed online, stated that the loss was down to a ‘continued investment’ into the playing squad.

When asked if loans could be possible this month, Howe said: “I don’t think we have many friends in the market. I’m not sure anyone wants to help us out”

Loans may well be the order of the day and there is one deal that Newcastle are set to step up after their game against Manchester City.

Phillips talks

HITC Football sources understand that Newcastle are set to step up talks with Manchester City over the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips.

With the two sides playing each other this weekend, these talks will commence in earnest after this clash and the former Leeds United midfielder could well be heading to St James’ Park to help the Geordie side deal with their current injury crisis.

The deal is not advanced at this stage but the two sides have been in talks and these talks look set to progress following Saturday’s game at St James’ Park.
