Gary Neville thinks Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been the best in his position in 2023.
The Manchester United legend, alongside Jamie Carragher, were tasked with trying to name EA SPORTS 24 Team of the Year, with the pick of Europe’s best on offer.
Whether it’s AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, Atlético Madrid’s Jan Oblak or Manchester City’s Treble-winner, Ederson.
They were all snubbed by Gary Neville, who made it clear, with the agreement of Jamie Carragher, that Liverpool’s number one is their man of 2023 and gets into their Team of the Year, as they told Sky Sports.
Even though Jurgen Klopp’s side won nothing in 2023 and finished outside of the Champions League places.
The feeling is that, without Alisson Becker, things would be far, far worse for the Merseyside club.
And now that Liverpool are sitting top of the Premier League pile, the Brazil star was given his flowers.
Alisson Becker Team of the Year
“Alisson from Liverpool,” said Neville. “By far the best goalkeeper in the world. I think we (Jamie Carragher) were pretty much solid on that one.
“Ederson is a great goalkeeper, there are a couple of other good goalkeepers in Europe. Courtois is good. But Alisson is by far the best.”

Ederson deserves more respect
Listen, Alisson might have been Liverpool’s best performer last season and the £150k-a-week star deserves respect for that, not forgetting he is one of his side’s best-ever signings.
But surely some respect needs to be put on the name of Ederson.
The guy was faultless, remained calm during pressure moments and did his job when he had to as Man City won the Treble last season.
If Alisson had won the Treble at Liverpool, then was snubbed for a player who won no trophies and didn’t even finish in the Champions League places, there would have been uproar.
