Roy Keane couldn’t help but remind Ian Wright about Arsenal’s failure in the FA Cup recently.

The last game of the 3rd round of the 2024 FA Cup took place on Monday night when Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United travelled to League One, Wigan.

Before the match, with Roberto Martinez as a pundit, there was talk about his Wigan side of 2013 winning the FA Cup, including beating Manchester City in the final.

Ian Wright stated about that historic giant killing, ‘you are rooting for Wigan, just like I am rooting for Wigan tonight’, as he told ITV Sport

That comment was quickly picked up by Roy Keane, who turned to the former striker smirked and stated ‘no surprises there, especially with Arsenal going out’.

There proved to be no upset last night, as Manchester United sealed a comfortable 2-0 win, whilst Wigan joined Arsenal out of the FA Cup.

And, as always, Roy Keane just had to somehow dig at Arsenal and their recent struggles.

Arsenal out of the FA Cup

“Unfortunately they went down that year,” said Wright. “The fact is for them to win the FA Cup in the manner that they did.

“It was a proper giant killing and against a Man City side that was on its way doing what they are doing. Nobody saw that coming. It’s one of those when you are watching that kind of final, you are rooting for Wigan, just like I am rooting for Wigan tonight (against Manchester United).”

Keane responded: “No surprises there, Wrighty, especially with Arsenal going out!”

Arsenal lacking confidence

The chances are being created by Arsenal, they just aren’t putting them away and their confidence has taken a big hit.

The issue with the Gunners here is that if they stop creating chances, then they will be in serious trouble.

This past month or so hasn’t been ideal for the club. Yes, getting knocked out of the FA Cup doesn’t help, but they need to see it as a blessing in disguise and how they are now out of another competition, which means fewer games.

At the start of the campaign, the main aim was to win the Premier League title, as of this moment, if they still achieve that, then it’s a result and a half.
