- EXCLUSIVE with Graeme Bailey
Liverpool were checking on the progress of two players in the Liga Portugal with a view to making a move, HITC Football understands.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have recovered brilliantly this season after missing out on qualification to the Champions League last season but look to be back in the title race.
The Merseyside club are currently three points clear at the top of the Premier League with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa just three points behind Klopp’s men.
Despite this, Liverpool are now understood to have been in attendance for a Liga Portugal game and were watching two players in particular.

Liverpool keen on two players
HITC Football understands that Liverpool were checking on the progress of Norwegian midfielder Morten Hjulmand and Pedro Goncalves, who has been one of the stars of the Portuguese top-flight this season.
The Merseyside club were in attendance in Portugal as they watched Sporting Lisbon take on Estoril as the Portuguese giants romped to a 5-1 victory.
Goncalo Inacio was one of the names that was attracting interest from the Merseyside club and HITC Football understands that the defender has been on the club’s radar for a number of years.
However, it is Hjulmand and former Wolves midfielder Goncalves who was also being watched by the Anfield club but just who are the pairing that Klopp could be keeping an eye on.
Hjulmand and Goncalves
Hjulmand is a 24-year-old Danish midfielder who predominantly plays as the deepest player in the engine room and he could be a wise signing from Klopp’s men.
Alexis Mac Allister has played as the defensive midfielder for the Reds but has been caught out on occasion in the Premier League, so the Danish star could well be a smart signing for the Anfield club.
As for Goncalves, the 25-year-old has been a revelation for Sporting and it is a surprise that the talented attacker has remained in Portugal for as long as he has.
Goncalves has five goals and four assists for the Portuguese side this season and performed even better last campaign with a superb 15 goals and 11 assists.
A move for the former Wolves midfielder could be a superb signing for the Anfield club and it seems the Merseyside club agree with this and are keen on scouting him.
