In recent years, Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment has taken a bit of a beating and their transfers have been questioned.

Well, the business they conducted in the recent summer has been one of their best in a recent while, with Guglielmo Vicario one of the standout buys.

Micah Richards feels he is now perhaps one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, alongside Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, after Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Everton, as he told Match of the Day.

The former right-back labelled Guglielmo Vicario as ‘outstanding’, with Gary Lineker agreeing and adding that he has been ‘brilliant’ all season long.

The Italy international, who was signed for £17.2 million from Empoli, had big shoes to fill because of what Hugo Lloris had done for the club for ten or so years.

But, in terms of recent performances, Spurs were having troubled times in between the sticks because Hugo Lloris, who is still at the club, was struggling and producing error-prone performances.

Guglielmo Vicario hasn’t needed time to settle in, but produced the goods straightaway, which continued as they beat Everton 2-1 yesterday.

Guglielmo Vicario’s performances

“The goalkeeper for Spurs, Vicario was outstanding,” said Richards.

Lineker interrupted and stated: “Vicario has been brilliant this season.”

Richards added: “He has been brilliant. I think he has been the best keeper so far, along with Alisson.”

Tottenham into the top four

With Manchester City away on Club World Cup duty, it allowed Spurs to capitalise and move into fourth place in the Premier League table.

This is a very crucial period for Spurs because, if they can continue to see through these next few weeks, then they are in with a real chance of returning to the Champions League next season.

The simple reason is that the likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Rodrigo Bentancur will return to action.

All of them are starters when fit, not forgetting someone like Yves Bissouma, who now probably won’t play until February because of suspension and African Cup of Nations duty.
