Leeds United are yet to make a bid for Sweden Under 21 goalkeeper Noel Tornqvist but Mjallby AIF will reluctantly ‘congratulate’ him if he makes a January switch to the Championship outfit.
That is according to Hasse Larsson, the Mjallby sporting director providing a timely update on the future of his prized asset just over a week out from the opening of the January transfer window.
Noel Tornqvist is a Leeds United target. Again.
Tornqvist had a trial at Thorp Arch six years ago, turning down a move to Leeds in order to stay in Scandinavia in pursuit of more regular first-team football. Now, having obtained exactly that at Mjallby, Tornqvist could finally secure a move which has been half-a-decade in the making, Leeds sending scouts to keep tabs on his progress.

Leeds United could finally land Noel Tornqvist
Tipsbladet believe that £1.7 million would be enough to seal the glovesman’s signature. A relatively minimal fee for a club of Leeds’ resources, but a considerable one in the eyes of Mjallby. Tornqvist could become their biggest-ever export.
“There has been a great deal of interest in him,” Larsson tells Fotboll Direkt, albeit while confirming that no offers have arrived just yet.
“Recently, it was Venezia (in Italy) that were very interested, or at least they say they are. But we haven’t received anything concrete yet.
“We are prepared for (Tornqvist to go) if we get something. But, at the same time, we really want to keep Noel. So, we’ll see what happens when the window opens.”
Six years in the making
Larsson insists that the decision will rest on Tornqvist’s shoulders, with Mjallby unwilling to stand in his way.
“We are a smaller club and if we want players to move up, we will not stop them,” the director adds. “Then, we have to look for something else and congratulate Noel, just in case it turns out that way.”
Tornqvist will celebrate his 22nd birthday in February. His arrival at Elland Road would suggest that either Karl Darlow or Kristoffer Klaesson are likely to make way.
