Paul Scholes was left amazed by Martin Odegaard’s passing during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Mikel Arteta’s side for large parts because, after a very dominant opening 45 minutes, they went into the half-time break goalless.

But with the Emirates crowd behind them and the chance to go top of the Premier League table before Liverpool play Manchester United, that spurred Arsenal on to open the scoring seven minutes after the restart through Gabriel Jesus.

Before it was the in-form Kai Havertz, perhaps more respect now needs to be put on his name?! Sealed the points for his team.

As per, it was Martin Odegaard running the show in the middle of the park and Paul Scholes said his passing ability proved ‘the type of talent this kid has got’, as he told Premier League Productions (17/12/23 at 2:55 pm).

When a man of Paul Scholes’ quality, perhaps the best passer of the ball in Premier League history, is giving you flowers in such a way, then all you can do is stick your chest out proudly.

Ever since Arsenal paid Real Madrid £30 million for Martin Odegaard’s services, he has gone from strength to strength for the team.

Martin Odegaard’s passing

“What a pass that is,” responded Scholes to Odegaard’s ball to Saka in the first half.

“I loved that pass. What a pass. That’s the type of talent this kid had got.”

Martin Odegaard, the captain

It needs to be noted that not many players have been under the pressure that Odegaard was under as a teenager.

At the age of 16, the now-25-year-old was publicised as one of the best wonderkids around.

All of that was engulfed even further when he made a move to the biggest club side in the world – Real Madrid.

Yet, despite all of that pressure, he is now a key figure for Arsenal, a team pushing for the Premier League title and in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Not forgetting that he is Arsenal captain, as well as the Norway international having that same honour for his country.

And, after scoring 15 goals from the middle of the park last season, including crucial strikes at Newcastle United and Tottenham, he will be aiming to make that the norm now to try and reach that world-class bracket.
