Even Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal couldn’t weather the storm and stop the juggernaut of Aston Villa winning on home soil again.
For the 15th Premier League home game running, and days after beating Manchester City, Unai Emery’s side overcame a resilient Arsenal team by securing a 1-0 win.
One of the players Arsenal would have highlighted before the match was the in-form, Leon Bailey, who inside ten minutes was turning Oleksandr Zinchenko inside and out.
Tony Adams admires what the 26-year-old does with the ball and when Arsenal are in possession, but he thinks he is a ‘complete weakness’ without it, as he told Premier League Productions (09/12/23 at 9:10 pm).
It was from Oleksandr Zinchenko’s side that Aston Villa opened the scoring through John McGinn, with Tony Adams stating that he was ‘laughing off-air’ that ‘everyone’ in the Arsenal side plays at left-back, other than the player himself.
Now, that’s because of the tactics Mike Arteta deploys and how he wants the £32 million star to come into midfield and overload.
Of course, that leaves Arsenal vulnerable when they are defending, with Tony Adams analysing the situation from the weekend with his defensive hat on.
Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back
“Zinchenko is a great positive player for us,” said Adams. “In possession of the ball, he can be such a strength.
“He pops inside. We were laughing off air. Everyone is playing at left-back, other than Zinchenko. There is a massive channel that is vacated by him playing inside all the time.
“But he can be a complete weakness.”

Arsenal’s trip to Anfield
Aston Villa are beating everyone that comes their way at Villa Park, as Arsenal tasted on Saturday.
But the away trips aren’t going to get any easier because, when they are next on their travels in the Premier League, it’s the small matter of facing Liverpool at Anfield.
As of this moment, Jurgen Klopp’s side are sitting top of the table.
And whilst Villa’s record at home has been exceptional during these past 12 months, for Liverpool, it has been beyond outstanding for several years now, including that 2-2 draw against Arsenal during that infamous game last season.
