West Ham United are reportedly ready to sell Maxwel Cornet already just one year after the winger sealed a £17 million move from Premier League rivals Burnley.

How much could we read into the comments David Moyes made earlier this week, when discussing the players West Ham United would be missing as the African Cup of Nations begins in January.

While bemoaning the potential absence of Mohammed Kudus (Ghana), Said Benhrama (Algeria) and Nayef Aguerd (Morocco), Maxwel Cornet’s name didn’t even come up. Did the Ivory Coast international simply slip Moyes’ mind? Or was this a sign that Cornet doesn’t feature in the Scot’s plans beyond the New Year, AFCON exit or not.

Maxwel Cornet could leave West Ham already

TalkSPORT believe that Cornet is likely to be made available in the post-Christmas transfer window. The former Lyon ace, so impressive during his maiden top-flight campaign at Burnley has endured a frustrating spell at the London Stadium.

After an injury-hit debut season, Cornet has played only one minute of Premier League football in 2023/24 despite being available for selection throughout the last few months. Cornet wasn’t even in Moyes’ squad for Thursday’s 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur.

The versatile 27-year-old has made no secret of his desire for more regular football either.

“It was important for me to get some minutes tonight and I’m really happy about the victory, so lets continue,” Cornet told West Ham TV after marking a rare appearance with an assist for Tomas Soucek in the 1-0 Europa League victory over TSC Backa Topola.

“The talent is still here! I’m just happy to get some minutes. It was very important for me.”

In total, Cornet has made a grand total of three Premier League starts for West Ham.

Steven Bergwijn linked

He is likely to fall even further down the pecking order if Moyes succeeds in bringing Ajax captain and former Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn back to London. There is interest in the £25 million Dutchman, per De Telegraaf, West Ham returning to a familiar hunting ground after luring both Mo Kudus and Edson Alvarez away from the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Everton, meanwhile, could be tempted to renew their interest in Cornet, a Sean Dyche favourite. A deadline day move to The Toffees collapsed over the summer after West Ham failed to land a replacement.
