Arsenal now face paying more than £100million to sign top January transfer target Douglas Luiz from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
Aston Villa are ready to command a staggering fee for midfielder Douglas Luiz this summer as they attempt to fend off Arsenal.
That is according to Football Transfers, who report that Villa are now ready to demand £110million for midfielder Luiz in 2024.
Villa have become a different animal under Unai Emery and will have genuine dreams of finishing in the top four this season.
Many Villa stars are thriving under Emery and, unsurprisingly, attracting major transfer interest in the process…
Aston Villa trying to fend off Arsenal interest in Douglas Luiz
Midfielder Douglas Luiz is chief among them having enjoyed a superb start to the season.
The Brazilian has impressed in Villa’s engine room and has bagged five goals and two assists in 14 Premier League games this term.
Fabrizio Romano claimed in November that Arsenal view Luiz as their number one January target and the ‘perfect’ signing for Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners want another midfield amid concerns over Thomas Partey’s injury record and Luiz is seemingly the top choice.
Football Transfers now claim that Villa are ready to slap a staggering £110million asking price on Luiz in an attempt to fend off interested clubs.
Villa believe that Luiz should be worth more than the £105million Arsenal paid for Declan Rice over the summer.
Arsenal surely won’t be able to come up with that kind of cash, especially in January, and have ‘no intention’ of meeting such demands.

Other clubs keen on signing Luiz
Arsenal aren’t exactly alone in the hunt for Luiz, at least according to reports last week.
90Min reported that Liverpool and Manchester City have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Luiz.
Liverpool had allegedly made their interest ‘clear’ with Jurgen Klopp and co seemingly keen admirers of the Brazilian.
The Reds spent big money on midfielders over the summer though and it’s hard to see the Reds spending more than £100million on Luiz.
Maybe City would be a little more likely, but they did sell Luiz to Villa in 2019 and it’s unclear whether he would fancy a return to the Etihad Stadium.
