Pundit Gary Neville has taken to social media to disagree with Jamie Carragher’s latest verdict on Arsenal and their Premier League title hopes.

Arsenal picked up another win on Saturday evening, beating Brentford 1-0 away from home.

Kai Havertz found the only goal of the game, popping up late on to head home Bukayo Saka’s cross.

Arsenal moved top of the Premier League table with that win, taking advantage of Manchester City drawing with Liverpool.

Can Mikel Arteta bring the Premier League title back to North London? Well, there are differing views on that from two of the top pundits in the country…

Gary Neville disagrees with Jamie Carragher on Arsenal

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher doesn’t seem all that convinced right now.

Carragher went on Sky Sports on Monday night and suggested that he doesn’t think Arsenal can win the Premier League playing as they are.

Arsenal have improved their defensive output this season but haven’t looked nearly as impressive in attack.

Carragher’s argument is that Arsenal have only marginally improved defensively but have significantly declined in the final third.

Carragher is concerned that Arsenal’s attacking players just aren’t playing well enough this season and that could cost them in tight games.

“I think if Arsenal continue how they are and if this is the Arsenal we’re going to see this season, I don’t think that can win the league,” said Carragher. “I think so many games are going to the wire and sometimes, that game can go against you,” he added.

Gary Neville often gets stick for criticising Arsenal, but he is actually on their side here and believes the Gunners actually have a better chance of winning the league this season.

Neville has taken to social media to state that Arsenal are ‘far more likely’ to win the league now they are even better defensively.

The ex-Manchester United ace highlights that Manchester City were more functional than flamboyant last season and managed to win the treble.

Neville feels that Arsenal are now capable of winning games whilst playing ‘below par’, praising their resilience whilst predicting that the scintillating football will return soon.

Neville accepts that he might be wrong and this ‘could all be tosh’, but he seemingly likes what he is seeing from Arsenal and disagrees with Carragher’s comments on their Premier League title hopes.

Many will still make Manchester City the favourites for the Premier League title even if they haven’t been at their best of late.

Arsenal have certainly been easier on the eye in the past and if they can recapture their attacking spark without damaging their defensive excellence, then we may just see Arteta pip his old mentor Pep Guardiola.
