Pundit Ian Wright thinks Aaron Ramsdale will now be exploring his options to leave Arsenal ahead of the January transfer window.
Aaron Ramsdale’s lack of action at Arsenal means he is likely to seek a move away from the club in 2024.
That is according to former Arsenal striker Ian Wright, who has been speaking on his podcast, Wrighty’s House.
Arsenal beat Brentford 1-0 on Saturday evening with substitute Kai Havertz heading in a late winner.
David Raya’s ineligibility meant a rare start for Aaron Ramsdale, but it was a mixed night for the England man.
Ian Wright thinks Aaron Ramsdale will want Arsenal exit
Ramsdale kept a clean sheet but almost gifted Brentford a first-half goal following some slack footwork.
The brutal reality is that Raya will probably go straight back into the Arsenal lineup with Ramsdale heading back to the bench.
Mikel Arteta showed his ruthless streak by replacing Bernd Leno with Ramsdale and the former Sheffield United man is now experiencing the same thing.
Ramsdale can’t be happy with his lack of playing time and Ian Wright now thinks a departure will be on the cards.
Wright suggests that there is ‘no way’ Ramsdale isn’t weighing up his options to leave Arsenal, which is worrying the former Gunners striker.
Wright clearly wants to see Ramsdale stay and thrive at Arsenal but is starting to accept that it may not happen.
Raya appears to be Arteta’s first choice fn Wright thinks Ramsdale does ultimately deserve to be a top goalkeeper elsewhere – even if it would hurt to see him leave.
“There’s no way, as we speak, he’s not – even just because of that performance, because I watched Aaron Ramsdale last season, when he was playing regularly and, yeah, there were a couple of goalkeeping mistakes but nothing out of the ordinary,” said Wright. “He’s got to be weighing up his options and that worries me. He has to be, he’s a number one goalkeeper.”
“I can’t lie about it – I like David Raya, I love the fact that we’ve got two top goalkeepers, but it just feels a little bit unfair. He’s not done anything to get himself in a position like this, so it doesn’t feel right, it feels very ruthless. I just hope that something can work out, simply because I think he deserves better. I don’t want him to languish around our reserves, as a number two I should say, if Mikel has got plans on making David Raya our number one goalkeeper. I want him to go and be the top goalkeeper that I thought he was going to be for us,” he added.

Premier League interest in Ramsdale mounting
Arsenal and Ramsdale are hardly going to be short of suitors come January.
The Daily Mail reported in September that that Chelsea and Bayern Munich are interested in signing Ramsdale.
Both clubs are in the market for long-term goalkeeping additions and may offer Ramsdale an escape route.
TalkSPORT claimed in November that Newcastle United may even be interested with Eddie Howe in charge.
Howe worked with Ramsdale at Bournemouth and praised him as ‘exceptional’ during their time together.
Another rumour emerged over the weekend with Wolverhampton Wanderers allegedly keen to sign him as a replacement for the in-demand Jose Sa.
Other Premier League clubs are surely keeping close tabs on Ramsdale, who would be prioritising first-team action if he is to quit Arsenal.
