Eidur Gudjohnsen thinks Alisson Becker had a ‘strange’ game during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Saturday.

There were a number of iffy moments from Liverpool’s number one, including his poor kick leading to Erling Haaland opening the scoring – that’s 50 Premier League goals in a record-breaking 48 matches.

But it was the performance of Alisson Becker that caught Eidur Gudjohnsen’s eyes because, whilst he has some ‘world-class’ moments, there were also moments to forget, as he told Premier League Productions (25/11/23 at 2:40 pm).

Towards the end of the game, the £67 million star (Sky Sports) seemed to pick up a hamstring injury.

He continued on and helped his team to a crucial point, but it will be interesting to see how Jurgen Klopp uses him in the next few matches.

Eidur Gudjohnsen thinks Alisson Becker ‘could do with a rest’ and should now be benched, especially with a European game coming up.

Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

“You almost think that he had a hamstring problem in the first half as well,” said Gudjohnsen

“But let’s not forget that in the first half, he made a world-class save to keep them in the game.

“As you say, a strange game, up and down. But some world-class moments and lesser moments. He could do with a rest with cup and European games coming up.”

An off day for Alisson

It was just one of those games for Alisson, it’s not the norm for the 31-year-old and he will be back to his best sooner rather than later.

In recent years, whilst Liverpool have slipped away from the Premier League title race, their main man between the sticks has probably been their best player.

And that has continued this season, aside from yesterday’s performance.

It proved to be costly because Manchester City scored from his mistake, but the Reds still managed to pick up a very valuable point.
