Tottenham Hotspur continue to follow Feyenoord hitman Santiago Gimenez but Chelsea appear to be looking at other targets.

Chelsea are not expected to be a problem for Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking on YouTube about Gimenez.

Gimenez has been in blistering form this season, smashing 15 goals and three assists in 15 games for Feyenoord.

The 22-year-old striker is understandably attracting interest and Tottenham appear to be a prime suitor.

Fabrizio Romano offers update on Tottenham Hotspur target Santiago Gimenez

Fabrizio Romano has now offered information about Chelsea potentially making a move for Gimenez.

The Blues may be in the market for another striker in 2024 and Gimenez is certainly impressing.

However, Romano claims that, whilst Chelsea are aware of Gimenez and the potential for a €45million (£39million) deal, they are looking elsewhere.

Romano believes that Chelsea are ‘focused on different names’ and that Gimenez is not a priority for Mauricio Pochettino right now.

Romano adds that Tottenham continue to follow Gimenez for a potential move and ‘know the player so well’, potentially teeing up a 2024 deal.

“We had rumours about Chelsea, rumours about Tottenham, Tottenham sent their people to follow the boy multiple times, he’s doing very well, he’s scoring goals, he’s a very, very good player,” said Romano. “But, at the same time, from what I am hearing, at the moment, Chelsea are focused on different names. With Santi Gimenez, at the moment, it’s not something like a priority for Chelsea. They know the situation, they know that Santi Gimenez could be available for something like €45million in January, but at the moment, nothing concrete ongoing.”

“It’s important to say that Tottenham keep following Santi Gimenez. They know the player so well, they are sending the scouts to keep an eye on the boy, so let’s see what happens,” he added.

Gimenez could be the man for Tottenham

Tottenham chose not to sign a centre forward after allowing Harry Kane to join Bayern Munich in August.

Son Heung-min is shining as a striker but Ange Postecoglou may be keen to add more of a classic number nine in 2024.

Postecoglou played with physical strikers at Celtic as he signed both Giorgos Giakoumakis and Oh Hyeon-gyu.

Hailed as ‘really fast’ by Dirk Kuyt, Gimenez isn’t really a target man but he has shown fine link-up play in the final third as well as the ability to run in behind and carry the ball at defenders.

Gimenez could become a complete striker if he continues to develop and he may be able to bring something different to the Spurs attack.

£39million isn’t cheap but Tottenham are clearly very interested in Gimenez – and news of Chelsea looking elsewhere will be a boost.
