Paul Merson gave his verdict on Chelsea defender Thiago while watching him in action against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

The former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit was hugely impressed by the display produced by the £110,000-a-week (Spotrac) Silva.

So, what did Paul Merson say about Thiago Silva during the Premier League game between Chelsea and Manchester City on Sunday?

Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, Chelsea have played out a 4-4 draw with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge in London in the Premier League.

Thiago Silva started the match for the Blues.

The defender scored for the home team in the 29th minute.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star found the back of the net when he glanced home Conor Gallagher’s corner at the near post.

Former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson was impressed with Silva, as you can see below.

Silva, though, was involved in Rodri’s goal for City, but I do not think that he could do anything about it.

The City midfielder’s shot from the edge of the area touched off Silva past Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez.

Perhaps the defender could have done better for Manuel Akanji’s goal, but overall, he had a decent game and made some good interventions.

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is world class

In my opinion, Thiago Silva is one of the best defenders in the world.

I believe that the Chelsea star is world class and is much better than Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

Van Dijk was brilliant and world class for maybe around three years.

Silva is 39 now and is still world class.

The Brazil international has been superb throughout his career.

Silva was hugely successful during his time at AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, and he never struggled or took time to adapt to the Premier League.

The veteran defender makes the right tackles at the right times, is a leader at the back, and reads the game extremely well.
