Robbie Fowler believes Jurgen Klopp may have already picked out Roberto De Zerbi to replace him as Liverpool boss one day.
Roberto De Zerbi could be the man for Liverpool in the future, possibly even with Jurgen Klopp’s approval.
That is the verdict of former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler, who has been speaking to The Mirror about Brighton and Hove Albion boss De Zerbi.
The Italian took over from Graham Potter in 2022, which seemed like a big ask after Potter’s impressive work at the Amex Stadium.
De Zerbi has taken Brighton to another level though, and he will be a hot commodity whenever he decides to leave the Seagulls.
Robbie Fowler backs Roberto De Zerbi for Liverpool job
Former Reds hitman Robbie Fowler has now told The Sunday Mirror (12/11, p71) that he thinks De Zerbi may be the next man in the Liverpool dugout.
Jurgen Klopp doesn’t seem to be on his way out any time soon, but the Germany job becoming available next year may turn his head.
Liverpool would be wise to have potential successors in mind just in case Klopp does leave, and Fowler believes De Zerbi could be the man.
Fowler notes that De Zerbi is ‘so rated’ by Klopp and ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if the Liverpool boss has given the green light for him to take the Anfield reins in the future.
“He’s so rated by Klopp, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Liverpool manager saw him as a natural successor,” said Fowler.

What has Jurgen Klopp said about De Zerbi?
Klopp has raved about De Zerbi, stating as recently as last month that he ‘could not respect more’ what the Italian is doing at Brighton.
Klopp noted that he is a ‘real supporter’ of what De Zerbi is doing and praised his impact on football.
The Liverpool boss also claimed that Brighton are the ‘best-coached team’ in the Premier League, clearly admiring De Zerbi’s work.
Fowler may well be onto something in terms of Klopp approving of De Zerbi, but we would expect assistant Pepijn Lijnders to be in contention too, whenever Klopp leaves.
Liverpool could take a Klopp recommendation and go for De Zerbi, but would have to hope it doesn’t mirror Sir Alex Ferguson backing David Moyes for Manchester United.
