Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips is now leaning toward accepting a loan transfer to Newcastle United in January over interest in the midfielder’s signature from Juventus.
That is according to Calciomercato, which claims that Phillips considers Newcastle to be the top destination away from Manchester City. He has a wealth of suitors interested in a swoop for the upcoming January sales. But the Toon’s interest is pleasing the 27-year-old the most.
Phillips is also looking for a fresh adventure having failed to establish himself at Manchester City to date. Pep Guardiola has continually overlooked the England international even when short of depth for his midfield. The 30-cap ace has only played 808 minutes with the club.

Phillips is favouring a loan transfer to Newcastle
Manchester City paid Leeds United £45m to sign Phillips on a six-year contract in July 2022. He has since featured just 29 times across all competitions after failing to secure Guardiola’s full support. The Whites product has recorded eight of his outings this term for 215 minutes.
But while Phillips is open to a move away in January, the fees Manchester City are seeking to sell thwart many of his suitors. Thus, he is only likely to leave Etihad Stadium on loan during the winter window. In that case, Newcastle would be Phillips’ top destination for his transfer.

Juventus have met with Phillips’ agent over a loan
A move to St James’ Park pleases Phillips more than any other club among the several teams eying deals. He would even favour Newcastle over a move to Juventus, who do not consider Phillips as their top target. The Leeds-born anchor is just one of the names on their shortlist.
Calciomercato’s claims dispute what Gazzetta dello Sport had claimed on Thursday. It noted that Phillips has said yes to possibly joining Juventus after the Bianconeri’s technical director Cristiano Giuntoli and sporting director Giovanni Manna met with his agent and the Citizens.
The Juventus chiefs travelled to England this Monday to speak with Phillips and Manchester City about a loan transfer. But while one Italian outlet reports the midfielder Guardiola even called ‘exceptional’ this week is open to a deal, another claims Newcastle are his first choice.
