Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has hailed midfielder Jorginho after his performance in the 2-0 win over Sevilla on Wednesday.

Jorginho is having an absolutely ‘enormous’ impact on the Arsenal squad.

That is the verdict of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who has been speaking to the club’s official website.

The Gunners picked up another Champions League win on Wednesday as Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka got themselves on the scoresheet.

Arsenal are now four points clear at the top of their group and closing in on the last 16 of the competition.

Mikel Arteta hails Arsenal midfielder Jorginho

This was a much-needed win for Arsenal after all the controversy surrounding Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United.

A number of Arsenal players impressed against Sevilla with midfielder Jorginho one of those to shine.

The Italian sat in front of the Arsenal back line and earned huge praise from Mikel Arteta.

Arteta has told Arsenal’s official website that he was ‘really happy’ with Jorginho’s performance against Sevilla.

Arteta admitted that it is an absolute ‘joy’ to have Jorginho at Arsenal, suggesting that he has an ‘enormous’ influence on the Gunners squad.

The Arsenal boss added that Jorginho is ‘so intelligent’ and makes everybody else in the team better with his influence.

“It’s a joy to have him,” said Arteta. “His influence on the rest of the squad and the rest of the boys is enormous. He fits in with the way that we want to play, he’s so intelligent. He understands everything so quickly and he makes everybody else better and I’m really happy with his performance tonight,” he added.

Jorginho stats v Sevilla

Jorginho had 73 touches of the ball against Sevilla – only William Saliba and Ben White had more in the Arsenal team.

The £12million signing from Chelsea completed 62 passes too, with two of those passes directly resulting in a shot.

Jorginho had one shot himself and chipped in defensively with one tackle and one interception.

Those stats aren’t mind-blowing but it’s clear that Arteta values his composure on the ball and experience in the middle of a fairly young side.

Thomas Partey remains out of action, so it’s hard to imagine that Jorginho will be dropping out of the Arsenal side – especially after Arteta’s comments.
