Michael Owen has raved about Dominik Szoboszlai and how he is already ‘a real good asset for Liverpool this season’.
The former Liverpool striker shared that he spoke to Jurgen Klopp about Dominik Szoboszlai and he told him that ‘people liked him straight away’ when he walked into the Anfield dressing room.
There were a lot of changes to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield in the summer, with the big departures in captain Jordan Henderson and Brazil International, Fabinho.
But even before they left, those on Merseyside needed to refresh things in the middle of the park and a player like Dominik Szoboszlai was very much needed.
And Michael Owen, from the get-go, loved what he saw from the 23-year-old, including how ‘two-footed’ he is, as he told Premier League Productions (05/11/23 at 1:20 pm).
It could be argued that the former RB Leipzig man has been Liverpool’s best player this season, and if it’s not him, then he’s only probably bettered by Mohamed Salah.
What Jurgen Klopp said about Dominik Szoboszlai
“You have to have some form of arrogance, some form of confidence to do any job of a real high standard,” said Owen. “There is one thing having those attributes, then there is the other of the perception you give to other people.
“I think he gives a good calming influence. Confident personality. I spoke to Jurgen Klopp about him and he said ‘he walked straight into the dressing room and people liked him straight away’. I think he has done unbelievably well to start his Liverpool career. Long way to go, so far – he has had an awfully good start.
“He has created more chances in a Liverpool shirt than anybody else – how two-footed he is, is the immediate thing that impressed me. He can run. Pass. He can shoot. He can score goals and assist.
“He has been a real good asset to Liverpool already this season. He will only get better and better as a player. Gets around the pitch. Not scared to do his defensive duties. I think he is a real all-round player. He wins the ball back an awful lot as well. I have just been so impressed.”

Szoboszlai in years to come
From Gini Wijnaldum to Jordan Henderson, Klopp has always got the best out of players and allowed them to punch above their weight.
It could be argued that, on paper, someone like Szoboszlai is a better player than what Liverpool have had in their midfield over the years.
But they delivered every trophy possible, so that is the next step for players like Szoboszlai if he wants to become a legend at Anfield.
Either way, fans should be excited by the type of player Szoboszlai can become because he has the ability to become one of the best midfield players in the world.
