Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Ivan Toney, and The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has given his take on the likelihood of the Brentford striker moving to the Emirates Stadium or to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In late September, The Mirror reported that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are interested in signing Ivan Toney from London and Premier League rivals Brentford.

Toney is serving a ban at the moment and is not available to play until January 2024.

There is speculation that the 27-year-old England international striker wants to leave Brentford in the January transfer window.

David Ornstein on Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target Ivan Toney

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has shared his information on the situation of Toney.

Ornstein has said that he has been told that Toney could leave as a free agent in the summer of 2025 when his current contract with Brentford runs out.

The reporter has noted that Arsenal have FFP issues, adding that it is worth watching what Tottenham do in regard to Toney.

Ornstein said about Toney on NBC Sports: “Currently, it’s looking less likely he will move in January, maybe more likely in the summer, but I have been advised not to rule out free agency the summer after next.

“So watch this space on that.

“When you look at the options, Arsenal, of course, Financial Fair play Problems and when they do get money, they will need to spend on David Raya.

“Chelsea do want an attacker, but is he the right age and profile?

“I don’t think he is high on their list at the moment contrary to reports. Manchester United, the ownership situation, the lack of clarity there.

“Tottenham is worth watching, but I would say they are doing pretty well as things stand.”

My View: Ivan Toney could leave in January or summer 2024

I do not think that Ivan Toney will stay at Brentford until the summer of 2025.

I think that it is very likely that the striker will be gone from Brentford in the summer of 2024.

It is hard to see Brentford willingly sell the striker in the January transfer window, unless, of course, Arsenal, Tottenham or Chelsea make a big bid.

Toney is 27 now and is in his prime.

I think that the striker will want to play for a top club in the best years of his career.

I believe that a move to Arsenal, Chelsea or Tottenham would be hugely appealing to Toney.

Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League title this season, and they could potentially beat Manchester City to the crown with Toney in their team.

Toney has made 68 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The striker has scored 32 goals and given nine assists in those games.
