Kalvin Phillips has struggled at Manchester City, and one of the clubs linked with the midfielder is Liverpool.

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool are among a number of clubs who are interested in signing Kalvin Phillips from Premier League rivals Manchester City in the January transfer window.

Newcastle United also have the 27-year-old England international midfielder on their January shortlist.

Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur are looking at Phillips as well, according to the report.

Fabrizio Romano on Liverpool target Kalvin Phillips

Fabrizio Romano has an update on Phillips’s situation.

As you can see below, the Italian journalist has written on X that Phillips is expected to leave City, who won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season.

City are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment with 27 points from 11 matches.

Liverpool are third with 24 points from 11 games.

Tottenham Hotspur are second.

Spurs have picked up 26 points from 10 matches.

My View: Manchester City unlikely to sell Kalvin Phillips to Liverpool

In my opinion, Manchester City are very unlikely to sell Kalvin Phillips to Liverpool in the January transfer window.

After all, Liverpool are a serious threat to Manchester City for the Premier League title.

So, why would City sell one of their players to the Reds?

True, City manager Pep Guardiola does not think that Phillips is good enough to play for his team on a regular basis.

After all, the former Leeds United star has played just 89 minutes in the Premier League this season and made only two starts in the league last campaign.

However, Guardiola would be well aware of the danger of Phillips flourishing under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Just look at how Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have made Arsenal Premier League title contenders after leaving City.

I do think that City and Guardiola will want to sell Phillips to Liverpool and make Jurgen Klopp’s team stronger.

I believe that City would rather sell the former Leeds midfielder to Tottenham Hotspur or Fulham in the January transfer window or in the summer of 2024.
