Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has suggested that he was especially poor in the 3-1 defeat away at West Ham United on Wednesday.

Jorginho has criticised his own performance after Arsenal were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham United.

This was a difficult night for Arsenal as Declan Rice made his first return to the London Stadium.

Ben White’s own goal set the tone before Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen added to the scoreline, putting West Ham 3-0 up.

Martin Odegaard did pull one back but Arsenal were dumped out after a fairly dismal performance in East London.

Jorginho critical of his own performance in Arsenal defeat

Mikel Arteta will not be happy with what he saw from his Arsenal side.

Arsenal looked flat and deserved to lose the game, with midfielder Jorginho now criticising his own performance.

Arteta decided to bring Jorginho into the side, starting the £12million midfielder into a holding role.

This was a bad night for Arsenal and Jorginho told the club’s official website that he wishes he played better.

Jorginho noted the whole team was just off it, but suggested that he was especially disappointing, calling on the Arsenal squad to raise their level of performance.

“I wish I could have done better,” said Jorginho. “I think the whole team didn’t do what we wanted to do, especially me in the first place. We just need lift the level,” he added.

Jorginho ‘struggled’ in Arsenal defeat

This was a chance for Jorginho to shine and potentially land a starting role against Newcastle United this weekend.

That now looks a little unlikely after the Italian failed to shine against the Hammers.

Arteta substituted Jorginho in the second half, bringing on former West Ham star Declan Rice.

BBC pundit Mark Schwarzer then suggested that Arteta was right to make the change, stating that Jorginho ‘struggled’.

This just wasn’t Jorginho’s night and he certainly seems to be well aware that he was off the pace against West Ham.

Jorginho must offer more going forward, with some Arsenal fans will not entirely sold on the January signing from Chelsea.
