Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been praised as a ‘brilliant player’ by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.

Bruno Guimaraes was ‘enjoying himself’ as Newcastle United eased past Manchester United on Wednesday night.

That is the verdict of pundit Gary Neville after watching Newcastle ran riot at Old Trafford.

Newcastle coasted to victory as Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock all found the net in a convincing 3-0 victory.

The Magpies advance to the last eight of the Carabao Cup whilst piling the pressure on Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Newcastle were able to rest key players and still get the job done with star midfielder Bruno only coming on as a substitute.

The Brazilian played the final half an hour, helping Newcastle see out the game and claim a superb win.

One moment in the final stages saw Bruno win a throw-in for Newcastle in front of the travelling Magpies fans.

Bruno started getting the Newcastle crowd up, clearly preparing for celebration at the final whistle.

Neville responded on Sky Sports (01/11, 10pm) by suggesting that Bruno was clearly enjoying himself as he basked in the glory of an Old Trafford win.

Neville did note that Bruno is a ‘brilliant player’ whilst praising the entire Newcastle display.

“He’s a brilliant player and he’s enjoying himself – why wouldn’t you? 3-0 up at Old Trafford, they’ve been really good tonight,” he added.

Neville probably wishes Bruno played for Manchester United

The Red Devils continue to invest in midfielders but with limited success.

Casemiro has dipped this season, Donny van de Beek is basically a forgotten man and Mason Mount has yet to shine since joining from Chelsea.

United really need somebody who can control the game whilst also providing energy in the middle of the park – exactly what Bruno provides for Newcastle.

Newcastle paid around £40million to sign Bruno – or, for greater context, around half the price United paid for Antony.

That looks like a complete bargain in the current midfield market and Neville surely wishes Bruno had been in red last night, rather than black and white stripes.
