Tottenham Hotspur are bringing Rob Mackenzie back to the club with Johan Lange securing a reunion with the talent spotter.
Rob Mackenzie is leaving Aston Villa to complete a return to Tottenham Hotspur alongside Johan Lange.
That is according to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, who reports that Mackenzie has now left his role at Aston Villa.
Tottenham confirmed in October that Lange was leaving Aston Villa to become the club’s new Technical Director.
Lange’s start date was listed as November 1st and here we are – the date is upon us and Lange has made his first move.
Rob Mackenzie heading back to Tottenham Hotspur
The Telegraph’s Matt Law reports that Aston Villa’s head of recruitment Rob Mackenzie has now left the club.
Mackenzie has spent more than three years with Villa but has now decided to leave Villa Park.
Law claims that Mackenzie’s next move is already in the pipeline as he ‘will join Tottenham’ next week.
Mackenzie will become the club’s chief scout, working alongside former Villa colleague Lange once again.
This means Mackenzie is returning to Tottenham having previously served as the club’s ‘head of player identification’.
Mackenzie quit Tottenham in 2016 but, more than seven years on, he is heading back to Spurs with Lange key to the move.

Mackenzie explained Son Heung-min transfer
Mackenzie only spent 18 months at Tottenham in his first stint, but that means that he was involved with one of the club’s most important transfers.
Tottenham pounced to sign Son Heung-min from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, paying £22million to bring him to North London.
Mackenzie was part of the Tottenham recruitment process and explained the decision to sign Son, who now serves as Spurs captain.
Mackenzie told Sky Sports in 2016 that there was a real emphasis placed on how Son coped with the physical demands of the Bundesliga, rarely missing a game.
That has translated to the Premier League too, whilst Mackenzie highlighted Son’s ability to press under Roger Schmidt, which was seen as a similar style to Mauricio Pochettino’s approach.
Mackenzie also pinpointed Son’s versatility and his Champions League experience, all of which made Tottenham push for Son and secure a vital transfer.
Finding another Son won’t be easy, but Tottenham fans will be hoping that Mackenzie has a few targets in mind ahead of January.
