Liverpool’s interest in Jamal Musiala has come as no surprise to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich with one of the most talented youngsters in European football catching the eye of Premier League giants.

The one-time Chelsea starlet already has the seal of approval from one former Liverpool star.

Michael Owen, during TNT Sport’s Champions League covering of Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win at Galatasaray, was left drooling over another ‘exceptionalJamal Musiala display, a balletic box of twinkle-toed tricks as he set up one and scored another in Turkey.

Arguably the most exciting young midfielder in world football who’s name doesn’t begin with ‘Jude’ and end with ‘Bellingham’, Sky Germany believe that the Merseyside giants have identified Musiala as a potential replacement for Mo Salah if the so-called ‘Egyptian King’ abdicates his throne and heads for Saudi Arabia in 2024.

Liverpool eye Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala

Rumours of Liverpool’s interest, meanwhile, are coming as no surprise to Bayern president Herbert Hainer.

The Allianz Arena chief is, however, keen to point out that Musiala has another three years on his contract, with Bayern expected to fight tooth and nail to retain a man who’s dramatic late goal on the final day of last season saw the Bavarians snatch the title from under Dortmund’s nose in a manner befitting of their FC Hollywood moniker.

“If other clubs are looking at Jamal Musiala, that doesn’t surprise us at all,” Hainer tells Abend Zeitung. “Because he’s an outstanding player. He showed that again on Tuesday in Istanbul.

“(Musiala) has a contract with us until 2026, and knows what he has at FC Bayern. He knows that all doors are open to him here. I would like to have him with us for a very long time.

“There’s no rush on either side.”

A Mo Salah replacement?

Musiala scored 16 goals and set up 16 more during a staggering 2022/23 season. He has, however, been in and out of the Bayern team under Thomas Tuchel in the early weeks of the new campaign, casting doubt on his long-term future.
