Who is West Ham United target Karim Konate?
90Min claimed earlier this week that West Ham are looking at various strikers, including Serhou Guiassy and Adam Hlozek.
Konate isn’t a household name just yet, so West Ham fans may be seeking some information about the Red Bull Salzburg forward.
The 19-year-old emerged with ASEC Mimosas before joining Salzburg in the summer of 2022.
Konate was loaned on to Salzburg’s affiliate club FC Liefering, where he smashed 15 goals in just 18 games.
Salzburg recalled him in January and Konate responded with three goals in nine league games.
The goals have flowed this season with Konate firing seven goals – as well as six assists – in 16 games for Salzburg.
Konate already has eight caps for the Ivory Coast and his goals have put him on West Ham’s radar.
Konate has admitted liking Liverpool
West Ham may well come calling for Konate in January, potentially giving him a chance to play against Liverpool in the Premier League.
Konate admitted earlier this year that whilst Lyon are his favourite club, he loves Liverpool and Barcelona too.
The Reds have shown a tendency to target Red Bull players over the years with Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Takumi Minamino, Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai all fitting that bill.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Konate ahead of a potential move down the line.
That would seemingly appeal to Konate, but West Ham will now hope to pounce before the Reds get involved.
