Tottenham Hotspur striker Alejo Veliz has impressed so much in training that he has been fast-tracked into Premier League contention.

Ange Postecoglou appears to have been left very impressed with Tottenham Hotspur summer signing Alejo Veliz.

That is according to The Athletic, who claim that Veliz is making a real impression in North London.

Spurs pounced in August with a deal to land Veliz from Rosario Central in a £13million move.

The Argentinian wasn’t really billed as a Harry Kane replacement and was certainly viewed as a player for the future – but he’s turning heads at Tottenham.

Alejo Veliz making an impression at Tottenham Hotspur

The Athletic now claim that Veliz has been ‘fast-tracked’ into Postecoglou’s plans after impressing in training at Hotspur Way.

It’s added that injuries have accelerated the process too, but Veliz is doing his part by showing promise in training.

The report notes that Postecoglou wasn’t expected to utilise Veliz at least until the second half of the season.

However, we have now seen Veliz make a couple of substitute appearances for Spurs, coming on against Liverpool and Luton Town for brief cameos.

Veliz is only 20 and there will be bumps in the road for him, but this has been an encouraging start for him in England.

Veliz loan move in January looks unlikely

Tottenham will want to get minutes into Veliz but being dumped out of the Carabao Cup in the first round closed off that route.

That may heighten calls for Veliz to be loaned out in the January window in order to play more games elsewhere.

It sounds like Postecoglou likes what he sees though, and can see a role off the bench for Veliz this season.

Postecoglou loves beautiful football but he wasn’t afraid to play with a big man up top at Celtic; Giorgos Giakoumakis and Oh Hyeon-gyu represented physical attackers up top, just like Veliz.

The Argentinian will be eyeing a first Premier League start at some point this term and prove himself as a bargain at £13million.
