Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the best players in the world, so I was not surprised when the Liverpool star started for England against Australia.

England took on Australia at Wembley Stadium in London in a friendly international on Friday evening.

The Three Lions won 1-0.

Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold started at right-back.

The 25-year-old was deployed at right-back, but he did often move out into midfield.

Alexander-Arnold was involved in the only goal of the match, finding Manchester City star Jack Grealish with a wonderful ball.

The £180,000-a-week (Spotrac) Liverpool star played for the entire 90 minutes.

Media verdict on Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold for England vs Australia

The London Evening Standard gave Alexander-Arnold 6 out of 10 for his performance and observed: “Early on, Alexander-Arnold was too keen to slip into midfield that he left Fikayo Tomori to cover right-back as well as his own position.

“His first-time ball created England’s goal.”

The Express rated Alexander-Arnold at 7 out of 10 and wrote: “Alexander-Arnold was at the centre of everything positive for England.

“Moving into midfield from right-back, several creative passes helped the Three Lions mount dangerous attacks.”

90min marked the 25-year-old 7 out of 10 as well and noted: “Often tucked into midfield alongside former Liverpool teammate Henderson.

“One of England’s most progressive passers and consistent threats in the final third.”

My View: Trent Alexander-Arnold played well for England

In my view, Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold played well for England against Australia.

There were one or two occasions when the 25-year-old left a gap at the back, but he was overall very solid and was very comfortable with the ball.

The Liverpool ace did look very good in the creative role in the middle of the park.

Maybe, just maybe, England head coach Gareth Southgate should consider playing Alexander-Arnold in midfield from now on.
