Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy is convinced Marc Guehi will leave Crystal Palace in 2024 with Spurs among the Premier League clubs showing an interest.

While Michael Olise may have turned down Chelsea in order to continue playing first-team football week-in, week-out at Crystal Palace, convincing Marc Guehi to the do the same may be easier said than done.

According to the Daily Mail, there is interest from a Manchester United side prioritising a young, ball-playing centre-half. Arsenal looked at Guehi recently too, per Fabrizio Romano. Do not be surprised to see Tottenham Hotspur throw their hat into the ring either, particularly as Eric Dier enters the final 10 months of his contract.

Tottenham like Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi

“As a centre-half, he looks the real deal. I’d be amazed if he wasn’t gone in the summer,” Murphy, a Spurs player from 2006 to 2007, tells talkSPORT (11 October, 12.10pm).

“He’s a Champions League-level player. And, for me, he’d be in the England XI.”

At just 23, Guehi is already the captain of Crystal Palace. He has forced his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans ahead of the European Championships. All the while blossoming into one of the most complete centre-halves in the Premier League.

Few defenders can match his fearsome blend of ball-carrying and belligerence. Guehi making a tradition out of snatching back possession before turning defence into attack with a marauding run up the pitch.

‘Champions League-level player’

“He’s a young player who wants to develop himself,” former Palace boss Patrick Vieira said after The Eagles completed an £18 million deal for the one-time Chelsea youngster (London News Online).

“He wants to really fulfil his potential, and his work ethic and his concentration is really good. This is why I believe that he has the attributes to be one day an international player.

“He is really calm. Really composed. His competitiveness is unbelievable. He’s really calm but really competitive on the field. It’s really a pleasure for myself and my staff to work with him.”
