Cesc Fabregas thinks David Raya got away with one today as Arsenal beat Manchester City 1-0 at the Emirates.

In the first half, David Raya was very lucky not to concede a comical and heart-stopping goal when he was charged down by Julian Alvarez.

Arsenal’s new number one was taking his time to pass out from the back, before Julian Alvarez managed to slide in and block the ball.

Luckily for the Spain international, the ball ended up hitting the side netting instead of going into the back of the net, with Cesc Fabregas stating that he ‘needs to be faster and sharper’, as he told Premier League Productions (08/10/23 at 5:35 pm).

Even Gary Neville, whilst doing commentary duty for Sky Sports, at one point told the Arsenal players to stop passing to their goalkeeper because he was a ‘nervous wreck’.

In the end, things calmed down for Arsenal in the second half, with Gabriel Martinelli scoring the all-important winner from the bench.

David Raya v Man City

“A couple I would say (Ramsdale got away with),” said Fabregas. “He is taking a few risks. It’s not the best pass from Gabriel. If you want to play this way, then it needs to be a strong pass. I don’t think he helped him.

“But Raya needs to be faster and sharper when you have a player and attacker like Alvarez (closing you down).”

Arsenal send out statement

Those defeats to Man City were just racking up, and sooner rather than later, something needed to be done about it.

Yes, this doesn’t put a big dent in the Premier League table because it’s only eight games in. But it provides Arsenal with that mental boost to really kick on now.

It’s probably a shame, from their perspective, that the international break has come along because the players, with this momentum, would want to get back out there as soon as possible.
