Don Hutchison has lauded Martin Odegaard as an ‘unbelievable’ player for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The former midfielder likened the Arsenal captain to Manchester City’s Treble-winning star, Kevin de Bruyne because of how ‘influential’ he is on the pitch.

Hutchison also feels that Martin Odegaard makes Arsenal ‘tick’ like Erling Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne or Rodri do for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, as he told Premier League Productions (01/10/23 at 7:30 pm).

On Saturday, the Norway star helped the Gunners to a 4-0 win over struggling Bournemouth to maintain the club’s unbeaten start to the new Premier League season.

It also included Martin Odegaard netting from the spot and handing the ball to Kai Havertz to score when Arsenal were given another penalty in the second half.

It’s just another sign of the former Real Madrid star maturing as a player and as a captain of one of English football’s most powerful clubs.

Odegaard likened to Haaland and de Bruyne

“Amazing player,” said Hutchison. “He reminds me of Kevin de Bruyne in how influential he is on the pitch and how good he is on the ball.

“Never really panics. Always seems to make the right decisions. He gets in good areas.

“I think he is the one, when you talk about Erling Haaland, de Bruyne or Rodri, who make Man City tick, then I think Bukayo Saka, and even more so, this man, Odegaard, he is the top man.

“He’s not particularly vocal, but he does it by his actions. When they are losing games. He is then says ‘give me the ball. I still want it. I will still take it in tight areas’ – 24 and to be captain of Arsenal. What a position to be in. Unbelievable player.”

Odegaard heading towards world-class status

The 24-year-old has tasted the big time before in the colours of Real Madrid, but that was when he was a teenager and nowhere near ready for the big stage.

Now that he has found a home, the quick-thinking playmaker is starting to cook on the domestic stage.

If he can transcend that form onto the Champions League stage, as well as being consistent, then it won’t be too long before he is put in the world-class category.
