Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy is the talk of Europe right now – seven years since Arsene Wenger wanted to lure him to Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger wanted to bring Serhou Guirassy to Arsenal and he is finally living up to his early potential.

The stories of how Wenger almost signed for Arsenal are the stuff of legend at this point.

N’Golo Kante, Yaya Toure and Luis Suarez all spring to mind, with Wenger missing out so many times that names are now compiled around the internet.

One that maybe doesn’t make headlines is Serhou Guirassy – but maybe Wenger was onto something after all…

Arsenal wanted Serhou Guirassy

Guirassy was emerging as a real talent back in 2016 having scored regularly on loan at Auxerre from Lille.

Previously with Laval, Guirassy looked like becoming a star and TalkSPORT noted that Arsenal were really interested.

It was stated that Guirassy had put himself on Wenger’s radar with his performances for Auxerre.

Wenger was no stranger to Auxerre talent having previously signed the likes of Abou Diaby and Bacary Sagna.

The report suggested that Arsenal were willing to pay around £1million to land Guirassy – but he ended up with Koln instead.

Guirassy now making headlines

Guirassy has been something of a journeyman since that move to Germany.

A loan then permanent move to Amiens, a switch to Rennes, a loan back to Germany with Stuttgart and now a permanent player with the Bundesliga club.

Guirassy played well last season with 14 goals in 28 games but nobody expected his explosion this season.

Guirassy has smashed 10 goals in just six Bundesliga games, meaning he leads the Bundesliga scoring charts ahead of Harry Kane.

The 27-year-old appears to be something of a late bloomer, finally making good on the potential he showed as a youngster.

Guirassy looks poised to make a big move in 2024 if he keeps this kind of form up, and with Arsenal potentially seeking to add another striker, maybe the Guinea international will end up back on the Gunners radar after all.
