Tottenham Hotspur could shelve a January move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney in order to focus on signing another defender.
Ivan Toney has admirers at Tottenham Hotspur but Spurs could scrap a move in order to sign another centre back.
That is according to the London Evening Standard, who report that Tottenham do fancy signing Toney.
The 27-year-old striker has returned to training with Brentford this month ahead of making his Premier League return.
Toney is currently suspended due to gambling breaches and can’t play until January.
Toney is gearing up for his return but it could come with another club as Brentford consider cashing in on their talismanic striker.

Ivan Toney on Tottenham Hotspur radar
Arsenal and Chelsea are thought to be leading the race for Toney with both clubs seemingly keen to land a striker.
Then there is Tottenham, who ‘admire’ Toney as they adjust to life after Harry Kane.
Spurs spent on another attacker on deadline day, signing Brennan Johnson rather than a fixed number nine like Toney.
Whilst Spurs like Toney, it’s thought that they will prioritise spending on other positions in January with Toney valued at around £80million.
Centre back is thought to be the key area for Tottenham with Ange Postecoglou keen to land another defender.
Eric Dier is out of favour and Davinson Sanchez was sold earlier this month, so more competition is needed at the back.

Tottenham may focus on a homegrown defender
Spurs appear to be building quite the defence for the future.
Ashley Phillips, Alfie Dorrington and new signing Luka Vuskovic all have huge potential but Tottenham need somebody who can bridge the gap between the kids and the starting duo of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Tottenham appeared to focus their attention on signing a homegrown defender during the summer window.
Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo, Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah were all wanted as Spurs looked to add a homegrown option.
Chalobah looks likely to be available in January but whether Chelsea would sell to Tottenham remains to be seen.
That’s the kind of signing Tottenham will be seeking though, attempting to build depth at the back over adding another attacking player.
