Sol Campbell praised James Maddison and Son Heung-min for the role they played in Tottenham Hotspur’s opening goal against Arsenal in the north London derby on Sunday at the Emirates.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham found themselves 1-0 down after 26 minutes following an unfortunate Cristian Romero own goal, as the away side were under the cosh early on.

But that’s when James Maddison and Son Heung-min produced their magic, with the Englishman, out on the left-hand side, getting the better of Bukayo Saka, driving into the penalty area, firing the ball across for his Tottenham teammate to stab home.

Ex-Arsenal and Tottenham man Sol Campbell praised James Maddison for his ‘great cut-back’, whilst he also added that it was a ‘delightful’ finish from the South Korean star, as he told Premier League Productions (24/09/23 at 2:55 pm).

In what was a pulsating and typically entertaining north London derby, those very same two players would combine again for Spurs’ second goal of the match, with the game ending in a draw and the duo maintaining their unbeaten starts.

Move aside Harry Kane, it seems as though a new partnership is emerging at Hotspur Way.

“Great cut-back from Maddison for Son,” said Campbell. “Fantastic and delightful finish from Son.”

Son and Maddison’s partnership

It’s a joy to behold and it’s got the Spurs fans up off their seats again because now they finally have something to cheer about.

In recent years, they have been used to these drab affairs, dull football, staying on the front foot and not taking risks, but, led by Maddison and Son, they are going the opposite way now.

In the end, Arsenal and Tottenham shared the spoils, with Spurs growing into the match as the game went on and, it could be argued that they finished the game the much better side.
