One-time Celtic target Takefusa Kubo is proving himself to be on a par with Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham during an outstanding start to the new La Liga season, according to one Spanish football expert.
Just days after reports emerged claiming that Real had a £30 million buy-back clause in Take Kubo’s contract, the twinkle-toed winger did his chances of a second spell at the Santiago Bernabeu no harm at all, ripping his former employers limb from limb during 45 dazzling first-half minutes in Madrid.
Kubo was once likened to David Silva by his former Villarreal coach Unai Emery. And the Manchester City legend would have been proud to call Kubo’s mesmerising display against Carlo Ancelotti’s side his own; a player Celtic reportedly tried and failed to sign on loan back in 2020 stepping into a ring with Jude Bellingham and landing his fair share of punches.

Celtic once wanted La Liga star Take Kubo
“Real Sociedad should have wrapped that game up in the first-half! They were brilliant. Absolutely awesome. Take Kubo was terrific,” Terry Gibson says on El Tel and Jon’s La Liga Weekly podcast.
“They ripped Real Madrid apart in the first-half, and Take Kubo was the obvious beneficiary of that. He was superb. As good as Jude Bellingham has been this year, I think Take Kubo has been on the level in every game he’s played.”
Kubo was still a teenager when Celtic came calling three years ago. But, even at that point, he was already building up quite the collection of eye-catching performances; outstanding during a short-lived spell at Real Mallorca.

Now a permanent member of the Sociedad squad after a series of loans, there is arguably not a more exciting youngster in La Liga right now than 22-year-old Kubo.
Well, apart from a certain Stourbridge-born midfielder that is, the Los Blancos Brummie wearing Zinedine Zidane’s iconic number five shirt while writing his own name into Real Madrid folklore.
