Tottenham Hotspur could bring Harry Kane back to the club with a first option clause allegedly existing in his Bayern Munich deal.

Harry Kane could end up back at Tottenham Hotspur one day thanks to a first option clause in his deal.

Tottenham fans were of course disappointed when Kane left the club for Bayern Munich this summer.

Spurs secured a fee of around £86million rising to £100million for Kane with the striker keen to leave in search of silverware.

Daniel Levy set tongues wagging on Tuesday night though, telling fans that Tottenham have a buy-back clause on Kane.

That sparked hopes of a return to North London one day, but a buy-back clause may not exactly be right…

Sky Sports reporter comments on Harry Kane buy-back

Sky Sports reporter Paul Gilmour now claims that he can offer a little more detail than Levy provided to supporters on Tuesday.

Gilmour claims that the information he has received indicates that the clause is actually a first option rather than a straight buy-back clause.

There is no set fee that Tottenham can pay to activate Kane’s return, which is usually how buy-back clauses work.

Gilmour states that the deal is actually similar to one that Tottenham had in place to potentially bring Gareth Bale back to the club.

The terms are that, if an English club launch an offer to sign Kane, then Tottenham will be invited to match the bid and leave the decision in Kane’s hands.

“We can give you a little bit more detail on that, what the information that we have got is that this is essentially Tottenham having a first option on re-signing Harry Kane if he ever does come back to the Premier League,” said Gilmour.

“There was something similar actually in the Gareth Bale deal to Real Madrid many years ago. What it means is that, if another English club does come in with a bid for Harry Kane at any point during his Bayern Munich career and Bayern accept that bid, then Tottenham would be given first refusal to match that offer and therefore it would be up to Harry Kane whether he would come back to Tottenham, so that’s the information that we have,” he added.

Tottenham doing just fine without Kane

Pundits before the start of the season seemed to suggest that Tottenham would be doomed without Kane.

That hasn’t been the case so far though with Tottenham dropping just two points in their first four games.

Son Heung-min is thriving up top in Kane’s absence with Ange Postecoglou’s football meaning the goals are being shared around rather than relying on Kane so much.

Spurs need to try and keep that form going, which isn’t easy with bitter rivals Arsenal on the horizon.

Maybe Kane returns one day, but Tottenham fans probably won’t be all that fussed at the moment with ‘Angeball’ faring so well.
