Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher hasn’t been sulking even after missing out on a move away to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur were keen on signing Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher but ended up choosing Guglielmo Vicario.

That is according to The Athletic, who claim that three Premier League clubs wanted to sign Kelleher this summer.

It’s noted that Kelleher now hasn’t started a game at Anfield for 315 days as he continues to be Alisson’s backup at Liverpool.

The Republic of Ireland international needs first-team action in order to progress his career, but he missed out on a summer move away.

Tottenham Hotspur wanted Caoimhin Kelleher

It’s stated that Tottenham were interested in signing Kelleher, as were Brighton and Hove Albion as well as Brentford.

All three clubs were keen on signing new goalkeepers this past summer and looked towards Kelleher as a potential signing.

However, Tottenham went for Italian international Vicario whilst Brentford snapped up Mark Flekken to replace David Raya.

Brighton decided to go for Dutch stopper Bart Verbruggen, meaning Kelleher missed out on a move away from Anfield.

It’s stated that Kelleher hasn’t been sulking about missing out on a transfer though, just focusing on getting down to work with the Reds again.

Kelleher needs to leave Liverpool in 2024

Kelleher missed out this past summer but 2024 may be the time to leave.

The Irishman turns 25 in November and has just five Premier League appearances to his name.

Liverpool love Kelleher as a backup to Alisson but the goalkeeper needs to think about his playing time for the future.

Transfer reporter Dean Jones recently suggested that Celtic want to make a deal for Kelleher happen in 2024.

Celtic view Kelleher as the long-term successor to Joe Hart, but agreeing a fee with Liverpool may be tricky with the Reds no doubt demanding a decent price.
