Ian Wright says if he was an Everton fan then ‘I wouldn’t be getting too excited’ by 777 Partners possibly taking over the club.

Farhad Moshiri’s money-crazy and ill-fated spell as Everton owner could be coming to an end because there is talk that American firm 777 Partners could require his 94.1% stake in the club, as reported by The Guardian.

But whilst one bad egg possibly heads for the Goodison Park doors, Ian Wright isn’t sure about 777 Partners coming in given what he is hearing about them and thinks that they will need to go through a ‘stringent’ test, as he told Premier League Productions (17/08/23 at 1:05 pm).

Everton have splashed the cash, more than most, it’s just the manner in which they have gone about it all.

Whether it’s Ronald Koeman in the dugout or Frank Lampard, those same problems keep rearing its ugly head.

It’s clear that those at the top of the tree need to leave right away, but that doesn’t mean that any old face will do because, if this new ownership goes wrong, then they will really end up in the Championship sooner rather than later.

Will 777 Partners takeover Everton

“If I was an Everton fan, then I wouldn’t be getting too excited,” said Wright. “The owners and directors test is going to have to be a very stringent one when you hear about the 777 organisation and how they are apparently going to look to takeover.

“When you look at the amount of debt that they are in, £350 million. The stadium still needs another £200 million. They are going to have to check and find out if these owners are credible enough to take Everton where they need to go.

“If they aren’t. We have seen a lot of money wasted. We have seen a lot of terrible managerial decisions. It’s just a place that needs stability along the line.

“You need serious owners who are going to come in and understand. I am not sure 777 have that kind of money to be able to do what they want to do at Everton or do what Everton needs.”

Farhad Moshiri as Everton owner

It just goes to show that money means nothing in football. Spend it all you want. If you don’t have a structure and brains behind it all, then you will fall flat on your face.

Yes, your Chelsea and Manchester City’s, since the turn of the century, have got to their heights because of the money.

But there has been a method to the madness, a ruthless nature and a strategy that has allowed them to reach the successes that they have.

Those on Merseyside have just made themselves worse and worse!
