Jamie Carragher has said that Harry Maguire should have left Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United for David Moyes’s West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that West Ham United would have been the perfect club for Manchester United and England international central defender Harry Maguire.

The former Liverpool defender has said that the £200,000-a-week (SalarySport) player would have been a success at West Ham.

West Ham United tried to sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United

Sky Sports reported on August 18 that West Ham had agreed a £30 million deal with Manchester United for Maguire.

The Guardian reported on August 15 that the defender had actually agreed personal terms with the Hammers.

However, the England international reportedly could not agree on a payoff with Manchester United and did not make the move to London Stadium in the end.

Harry Maguire reminded about West Ham United transfer mistake

Carragher wrote about Maguire in The Telegraph: “He missed the opportunity to start landing a few punches when he turned down West Ham in the summer.

“David Moyes would have been the perfect manager in an ideal team for Maguire’s attributes.

“I am sure he would have been a success there. Too many transfers stall because a player feels mistreated and refuses to leave without a pay-off.

“Maguire had to think beyond that, especially when considering his international career.

“It is unfeasible for a centre-back to go into the next Euros when they have not been a regular for their club for two years.”

It is hard to see Harry Maguire become a regular for Manchester United again.

The defender does not appear to be in the plans of Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag.

The 30-year-old has made one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Manchester United so far this season.

The Manchester United no. 5 made eight starts and eight substitute appearances in the league last season.

Maguire is a very good defender and, at 30, he is at the top of his game at the moment.

Perhaps the defender should look to move away from Old Trafford in January.
