Ian Wright thinks the treatment of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah from Saudi Arabia has been ‘disrespectful’.
The Arsenal legend can’t understand why Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad have decided to come in ‘that late’ to sign the Liverpool player, as he told Premier League Productions (04/09/23 at 2:45 pm).
The Saudi Pro League window is set to slam shut on Thursday, with fans waiting anxiously to see if Mohamed Salah leaves.
Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s stance has been pretty clear from the off, their star man isn’t for sale, but there is talk that Al-Ittihad ‘want to make another offer’, as reported by Sky Sports.
Given that the Reds paid £35 million for Salah back in 2017 (Sky Sports), and now there is talk of him possibly being sold for close to or above £200 million, then that is some serious profit for the club.
But, given how important Salah is to Liverpool and Klopp, then that ‘profit’, from the perspective of the fans, means nothing, because him staying is far more important, as Wright shared his thoughts.

Why are the Saudis leaving it late to bid for Salah?
“I don’t if that’s the Saudi guys flexing,” said Wright. “To come in that late, for a player of that calibre, you aren’t going to let him go.
“It’s almost disrespectful to him – now, it has just unsettled him.”

Salah set to stay?
Unless something crazy happens between now and Thursday midnight, then you would imagine that Salah stays put on Merseyside.
The Egypt international is away on international duty now after making a strong start to the new Premier League season, including scoring during the win against Aston Villa over the weekend.
There is talk that Klopp could possibly mount a Premier League title charge this season, after their troubles last time out, well, if they are to do that, then they need Salah to stay put.
