Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg finds himself in a sticky situation at Tottenham Hotspur with one Danish pundit sympathising with his lack of minutes in the Premier League.
Then again, should Tottenham’s number five spend much of the next few months gathering dust and cobwebs on Spurs’ space-age substitute’s bench, he won’t have many to blame other than himself.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to the Daily Mail, did like Scott McTominay and turned down a deadline day move to Fulham, the Cottagers submitting a £25 million bid at a time in which Joao Palhinha was posing for photos in Bayern Munich red.

Hojbjerg’s subsequent 22 minute cameo off the bench against Burnley some 24 hours later, meanwhile, was probably a sign of things to come. The former Southampton skipper lacks the guile to really thrive in an Ange Posetecoglou team; his role likely to be one of a shore-things-up-off-the-bench sort of back-up under the oh-so enrapturing Aussie.
Hojbjerg snubs Fulham for Tottenham stay
“I allow myself to be a little sorry that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg did not move on from Tottenham,” Jonas Hebo Rasmussen, who represented Denmark at youth level and had a brief spell at Arsenal as a kid, tells TV2.
Rasmussen, however, believes that Hojbjerg will still be a key part of the Denmark squad ahead of Euro 2024.
“I’m not that nervous,” he adds. “Because, in a month’s time Hojbjerg will probably have started twice for Denmark and two to three times for Tottenham!”

That, however, may be wishful thinking. Hojbjerg is already stuck behind Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr – so impressive in that 5-2 Burnley shellacking – and that is without mentioning Oliver Skipp too.
There were loan enquiries from Atletico Madrid and Galatasaray, meanwhile, in the ex-Bayern Munich man. Spurs’ reluctance to accept a temporary bid, however, soon brought those discussions to an end.
