Alan Shearer has been left wowed by Son Heung-min after he scored a hat-trick during Tottenham Hotspur’s 5-2 win over Burnley on Saturday.
Harry Kane? Who is Harry Kane? It has been a number of weeks since the England captain left Tottenham, but one thing is for sure, the players aren’t showing it on the field of play.
The performances from Ange Postecoglou’s side heading into the international break have been breathtaking, with Shearer singing the praises of Son Heung-min after his hat-trick, as he told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (02/09/23 at 8:20 pm).
Previously, it has been Richarlison who has been leading the line for Spurs, but he has struggled in the Premier League, scoring only the one goal since his big-money transfer last summer.
He might have opened his account at Craven Cottage during Tottenham’s EFL Cup defeat to Fulham, but Postecoglou decided to drop the Brazil star for the trip to Turf Moor – it has been claimed that he didn’t want to start the game in midweek.
Well, it worked a treat because Spurs were, once again, a joy to watch, with the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer Shearer stating that it’s all going ‘really, really well’ for the club.
“This first one, I think it’s a wonderful finish,” said Shearer. “He is always in control of this. He knows exactly what he is doing.
“He sends the defender down. He sends the goalkeeper down – it’s absolute perfection. What a great finish, so clever.
“When someone, as big as Kane leaves the football club, you have got to say to yourself ‘Am I going to step up?’ And it’s a really good opportunity for other players to step up. That’s exactly what it looks as if is happening at Tottenham.
“Again, that’s a cultured finish, he guides it with his left foot to the goalkeeper’s right. It’s all looking really, really well at Tottenham.”
Son leading by example
With the captain’s armband strapped to his arm, the £192k-a-week star (Spotrac) is leading by example for a Spurs side in transition.
In terms of the player’s side, there still needs to be a fair few changes, with a number of senior and unwanted players not making moves when the summer transfer window was open.
But the style of play is changing, new faces and stars are emerging, such as James Maddison, and it is exciting the Tottenham faithful.
