Tom Cleverley has bigged up Tottenham Hotspur’s deadline day transfer move for Nottingham Forest star, Brennan Johnson.

The former Manchester United player says Brennan Johnson is someone who has ‘unbelievable pace’ and a player that is ‘exciting’.

As for Tottenham, Cleverley thinks that it’s a ‘real positive signing’ for Ange Postecoglou’s side, as he told Deadline Day on Sky Sports (01/09/23 at 6:10 pm).

Hours remain before the 2023 summer transfer window slams shut, as Spurs try to get this deal over the line.

It’s just typical of Daniel Levy that they are bringing in a big-money signing so late, with BBC Sport reporting that ‘£45 million+’ is being paid for the 22-year-old.

Nonetheless, ahead of the summer transfer window slamming shut, this is what Cleverley had to say about the incoming Johnson deal.

“They are getting a player with unbelievable pace,” said Cleverley. “A great age. He did really well to keep Forest in the league. An exciting young player.

“I think Spurs fans would like to see an out-and-out number nine come into the club, but I think that’s a real positive signing for Spurs.”

Tottenham’s new attacking style

During the early stages of the Postecoglou era, Spurs fans have been able to witness a complete change in their style after years of defensive football.

Spurs have been on the front foot, playing with freedom and playing like they have the handbrakes off.

And if they can get Johnson through the doors, then he will only add to that quality.
